Flying Turns was a commission done for a sculptor and professor at the Cleveland Institue of Art.
 
Bald eagles have made a remarkable comeback in Ohio, growing in population to 649 as of July, 2008 with sightings in 63 of Ohio's 88 counties.
 
Mid-air rotation is part of the aerial acrobatics observed in the mating ritual of these magnificent birds.
