Knowledge & Wisdom was a very special commission that evolved after I returned to academia as a biology teacher after a 30 year sabbatical. Sarah, a seasoned veteran in the classroom, took me under her wing and became my mentor. She had seen one of my sculptures (Final Approach) on display in an art exhibit and wanted a piece of my work for her home.
Her husband contacted me about collaborating on a special sculpture for her. The Greeks embodied the owl as their patroness, Athena, 'goddess of Knowledge & Wisdom'. We decided an owl would be the perfect tribute to the teacher just selected "Environmental Teacher of the Year".
